  • Description:
    This introductory course gives an overview about the Universe, its major players and processes.
    Starting with an introduction into the properties of electromagnetic radiation and astronomical techniques,
    we go on to discuss the evolution of stars from birth to death, the structure of the Milky Way and other, more exotic galaxies,
    and end with a short introduction to cosmology and the expanding universe.
    The course is aimed at physics students in the 3rd year as well as interested students from other fields
    with some basic knowledge of mathematics and physics.
    Lectures+Exercises: Tuesday 16.15-18.00 R10
    Lectures: Thursday 12.15-14.00 R9
    Starting week 3, Tuesday January 13
    The first lecture after Easter holiday is Thursday April 16
    The last lecture of the semester is Tuesday May 5
    The examination is Wednesday May 20, 9.00-13.00

    Question session: Tuesday May 12 at 16.15 in R10
    I will be available in my office on May 18-19,
    and answer e-mail when absent from my office
